Public vote for San Marino's ESC entry 2018 has started!

On www.globalrockstar.com, fans can vote for the 11 San Marino finalists by becoming shareholders of their tracks. The candidate reaching the highest funding on the platform until the 3rd of March 2018, will receive the highest number of points in the public vote.

1in360 and San Marino RTV have chosen an innovative voting system to measure true fan engagement in their public vote for the selection of the San Marino candidate and song. „There's nothing more significant, to measure real belief in an artist and his song than by measuring how many people, and to what extent, are willing to take a financial investment in that track" say Mathias Strasser, CEO of 1in360, the producer of the San Marino talent show.

Therefore, Global Rockstar was engaged by 1in360 to conduct the public vote on its innovative royalty-based-crowdfunding platform www.globalrockstar.com. On the platform, ESC fans are invited to listen to all 11 potential ESC candidates and songs, to decide in which one they truly believe by making an investment.

Fans then become shareholders of that track and earn money for the term of copyright (average 70 years) from every stream and download, no matter if it represents San Marino at the Eurovision 2018 or not. Those who make the right choice will be „co-owners" of a Eurovision track. All other tracks are also published and marketed worldwide.

The minimum invest on the platform is 2.- EUR (lowered again on the request of fans) and entitles the investor to receive 0.0125% of future net royalties generated by streams and downloads. ESC songs in the past reached up to 120 mio streams on Spotify, which equals a revenue of approximately 960,000.- EUR. Owners of shares from the right track can make a great profit.

On individual profile pages on www.globalrockstar.com, all 11 candidates present their songs in acoustic versions. Starting 24.02, they will also give an insight in the current state of their music productions. All investments of fans are directly used to improve the quality of the respective music production until the live-TV-final on the 3rd of March, 8 p.m. CET on San Marino RTV. (livesteam on: http://www.smtvsanmarino.sm/programmi/web-tv)

The decision about the official San Marino entry for the Eurovision Song Contest 2018 will be taken by a combined public/jury vote in the live finals on 3rd of March.

The jury and the public will each award points according to the Eurovision system (12, 10, 8, 7, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2, 1 points). Whoever achieves the highest funding amount via Global Rockstar will receive 12 points in the public vote. If more than one candidate raises the same amount, all of them will receive the same number of points and the pool of the remaining points will be reduced accordingly. For example, if two candidates receive 12 points, the next best candidate will receive 8 points. If two candidates receive the same number of points from the jury and the public, the jury vote prevails.

The jury will be constituted by a panel of music industry experts appointed by 1in360, which will include Alessandro Capicchioni, San Marino's Head of Delegation. Christof Straub (founder of Global Rockstar) and Zoe Straub will not be part of this jury.

San Marino RTV and organizers of the national Sammarinese preselection 1in360 have brought changes in the voting rules for the final of the show which is set for 3 March "consistent with their mission to carry out a process that ties in the community as much as possible".

In summary:
• Zoe Straub will no longer have a vote in the jury decision.
• The public vote will be given the same weight as the jury vote (only in case of a tie the jury prevails).
• There will only be one "pay" vote (not, as is currently the case, two - crowd investment via Global Rockstar and Paypal voting).

One concern that has been raised is that Zoe Straub should not be both a songwriter and a judge because of the risk that conflicts of interest might cloud Zoe's judgment. Organizers responded: "While we have full faith in Zoe's ability to judge the various performances on their merit, we took the feedback seriously and accordingly have decided to change the rules such that, going forward, the sole role of the judges will be to provide feedback and guide the candidates.

The actual jury vote will instead be taken by a panel of music industry experts appointed by 1 in 360, which will include Alessandro Capicchioni, San Marino's Head of Delegation, but will not include Christof or Zoe Straub. In this connection, we want to emphasize that 1 in 360 and Global Rockstar are entirely separate companies. While 1 in 360 has collaborated with Global Rockstar in the production of the songs, neither Christof Straub, who is the principal shareholder of Global Rockstar. nor Zoe Straub have any ownership interest in, or control over, 1 in 360"

Another set of concerns relates to the public vote. The main concerns received in this regard are the fact (1) that the voting system is too complicated and (2) that the public vote is not given enough weight. In addition, some fans have complained that they are effectively asked to pay twice if they wish to invest in a song and support it in the finals. Considering this it was decided to significantly boost the public vote by giving it equal weight to the jury vote (only in case of a tie the jury vote prevails).

However, organizers highlight that they simply are not in a position to conduct a free public vote that is immune to abuse. Therefore, they have decided to simplify the voting system such that the sole measure of the public vote will be the investment via the Global Rockstar crowdfunding platform.

Global Rockstar has agreed to reduce the minimum investment as much as is technically feasible (as of today, Global Rockstar has committed to lowering the minimum to EUR 20) and to limit the funding to EUR 8,000 per candidate to avoid any candidate effectively "buying" the vote.

The jury and the public will each award points according to the Eurovision system (12,10, 8, 7, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2, 1 points). Whoever achieves the highest funding via Global Rockstar will receive 12 points in the public vote. If more than one candidate raises the same amount, all of them will receive the same number of points and the pool of the remaining points will be reduced accordingly.

Following songs are set to compete in the national final (current support standings indicated):

Sara de Blue – Out of the twilight € 2160
Jessika feat. IROL – Who we are € 720
Franklin Calleja – Stay € 320
Giovanni Montalbano – Per quello che mi dai € 200

Jenifer Brening – Until the morning light € 120

Here is the press release

Fans become shareholders of a Eurovision-Song 2018!

As from this Friday, 16th February 2018, 10pm (CET), fans can become part of a Eurovision song by purchasing shares of the track representing San Marino at the Eurovision Song Contest 2018. Investors will then receive royalties from every stream and download of that track for the next 70 years. This unique opportunity is available on www.globalrockstar.com.

This year, Global Rockstar was engaged by 1in360 as the artistic director to assist in the selection for San Marino's ESC 2018 candidate. To choose the best candidate and song, 11 international artists (from Zimbabwe, Israel, Norway, Germany, San Marino, Italy, Malta, Finland, Austria) are performing their songs in a three-part TV-show on San Marino RTV, produced by 1in360.

The first show, in which the 11 candidates performed their first song, was broadcasted last Friday.

On Friday, the 16th of February, 8 p.m, show 2 will be broadcasted.

(livestream on https://youtu.be/ZSXINkIICFE

In show 2, all 11 artists will perform a second song. At the end of this show, 1in360 will select the best song for each of the 11 candidates under a system that considers both jury and public voting. In the final TV-show (3rd of March) the artist and song that will represent San Marino at the ESC will be selected out of all 11 candidates and songs presented.

From the end of show 2 until the final TV-show (from 16.2 -3.3), all ESC enthusiasts and music fans will be able to invest in their favorite artist and song on www.globalrockstar.com. All fans who invest are supporting the production of the 11 songs to a high-end track with the best producers, musicians and engineers.

In return, the fans become shareholders of that track and earn money by receiving royalties from the revenues generated by all streams and downloads for the next 70 years.

ESC songs in the past reached up to 120 mio streams on Spotify, which equals a revenue of approximately 960,000.- EUR. Owners of shares from the right track can make a great benefit.

But not only the ESC song investors will have a return: All supporters will receive royalties for 70 years from the track in which they invested: All 11 resulting productions will be published and marketed worldwide.

About Global Rockstar:

Global Rockstar was founded by the Austrian songwriter and producer Christof Straub (Papermoon, ZOË) and has conducted the world's largest online music contest during the past years.

In December 2017 Global Rockstar launched the first royalty-based crowdfunding-platform for music: Fans who invest in music productions become shareholders of the resulting track, and earn money by receiving royalties from the revenues generated by all streams and downloads of the track for the term of copyright.

„We are proud to give artists, fans and investors a new opportunity to take part in the music business with this innovation ", said Global Rockstar founder Christof Straub. „A global smash hit can generate 100,000 EUR a day on streaming platforms. Now fans and artists can equally profit from this new model."
